Doomsday Profit featured on the official Doomsday Clock Playlist

Ever since 1947, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has maintained The Doomsday Clock as a visual symbol of encroaching existential threats, with midnight representing global catastrophe.

On Jan. 28, the Bulletin announced the The Doomsday Clock has inched forward to 89 Seconds to Midnight — the closest to catastrophe it has ever read. The Bulletin‘s official 2025 Doomsday Clock Statement outlines the ongoing threats and risks analyzed by its Science and Security Board.

The Doomsday Clock is a powerful image that proved inspiration to Doomsday Profit as the band defined its aesthetic and wrote the eponymous song that would serve to outline an underlying philosophy for the band. The ominous bass intro is meant to evoke the dreadful countdown, while the lyrics imagine a world crumbling, while the powerful — if shortsighted — cling to their gold and cower for safety while the rest of humanity suffers.

In many ways, the song feels more prescient in 2025 than when it was written in 2019. Fittingly, the Bulletin has added “Doomsday Profit” to its official “Doomsday Clock Playlist” on Spotify, where it joins tracks by Hozier, Iron Maiden, Arch Enemy and The Clash, among others.

We invite you to listen to the playlist on Spotify — while there’s still time.
