Doomsday Profit is less a vision of a better future than a glimpse of the cold realities under the microplastic’ed sheen of today.” —JJ Koczan, The Obelisk

There’s no time to waste. At least that’s how Durham, N.C. sludge metal band Doomsday Profit seems to be operating in 2025.

Building their catalog atop the foundations laid by 2024’s psych-leaning split LP with Virginia-based Smoke and 2021’s gritty, groovy In Idle Orbit, Doomsday Profit has embarked on an ambitious release schedule: issuing new singles every month in 2025, leading up to the Sept. 19 release of their self-titled full-length.

With the new album, Doomsday Profit now has embedded an even wider array of influences into their acerbic, dystopian sludge. Particles of monolithic doom, grisly death ‘n’ roll grooves, driving punk rock and scathing black metal all flash in the band’s raw new recordings.

As ever, Doomsday Profit has a finger pointed squarely at the powers that be, but they’ve also learned to turn their ire inward, and balance their vitriol with melancholic nuance. This broader approach has turned their already dynamic performances into a must-see, with a live resume that includes Hopscotch Music Festival and Seismic Summer, as well as supporting slots with established acts like Thou, The Obsessed, Black Tusk, REZN, and Restless Spirit.

Doomsday Profit is: Bryan Reed (vocals/guitar), Ryan Sweeney (bass), Kevin See (lead guitar), and Nat Parkinson (drums)

Praise for Doomsday Profit

“These guys are going from strength-to-strength with the kick-ass songs they’ve released so far.”

Steve Howe, Outlaws of the Sun

”Raleigh’s Doomsday Profit deep-fries its doom riffs in psychedelic scuzz, riding bad vibes toward sweet oblivion.”

Patrick Wall, Free Times

“Like Weedeater with a mean streak, [Doomsday Profit] wallops the listener right out the gate.”

Goatforest, Toilet Ov Hell

“If you like to get high in a swamp and listen to the old school metal stuff then this will be perfect for you.”

Carcassbomb, Noob Heavy

In Idle Orbit is a record that is downbeat and devastating, fusing the headache inducing throb of Electric Wizard with the speaker destroying sludge heaviness of Conan.”

Matt Bladen, Musipedia of Metal
